Meditation

Meditation has been a part of my life since my diagnosis of MS.  I wish I could say I’m diligent in my practice, but I’m human and life too often gets in the way of what’s best for me.

I have found meditation to be such an integral part of really knowing myself.  It’s as if, when we quiet the chatter and ‘crap’ that goes on in our minds, we hear our ‘true’ self speak.  We spend so much of our time living in the external world concerned with looks, appearance and material value; there is never time to look at how we are on the inside.  Meditation is the tool used to help address this imbalance by looking at the nature of one’s own mind. By placing the spotlight of attention, or mindfulness on the mind, the mind becomes lighter without doing anything.  Meditation means to concentrate your attention on some object of thought or awareness.

The benefits include:

  • Significantly reduces stress and anxiety
  • Improves your sleep and increases energy
  • Achieves profound states of deep relaxation
  • Improve mental and emotional well-being
  • Awakens your potential for long-term personal growth
  • Dramatically increases your self-awareness
  • Enhances creativity and motivation to new levels

Like working out, sticking to a budget or watching what we eat – there is effort in order to recognize success.  In order to really feel the benefits of meditation you have to make the effort.  It’s like exercising a muscle; the more you meditate the easier it is.
